Dark Magic

Development Status: Released Apr 11, 2006
Last Updated: 25 months ago
Type of Mod: Single & Multiplayer Real Time Strategy
More Info

In Dark Magic you take on the role of a magic user or "Mage". As a mage you have the ability to cast a number of magic spells based on the type of Circle and School chosen. These spells grow in power and ferocity. You must battle your opponents to become the ultimate Mage, to become "The Wizard".

Experience:

You begin each game as a low level Mage with only a small number of spells, as you play your experience and knowledge grow, giving you access to bigger and better spells.

You gain experience by destroying your opponents and casting spells. New spells are acquired as you gain experience in the game.

The Experience system in Dark Magic works on a "sliding scale" this means the more you cast a spell the more experienced you will become with this spell. You will gain less and less experience for casting spells, the higher the spell level.

Spell Level Experience gained for casting

  • 1 - 1000

  • 2 - 700

  • 3 - 500

  • Also, spells get more powerful the longer you keep them.

    Spells:

You begin each game with a small number of spells chosen from the Circles and Schools.

As you play the game you gain more spell knowledge. As a result you will learn new spells to use. These new spells will begin at low levels but the more you use them the more powerful they will become.

In most cases, spells start at Level 1 and max out around Level 10. At Level 1 the spell is very weak and will do limited damage to your opponent. At Level 10 spells are almost unstoppable and will do huge amounts of damage to unprotected opponents.

In the full Dark Magic Mod, we plan on placing limitations on how many spells you can learn.

    Health and Mana:

Each player will have a health and mana bars visible on screen by default.

Your Health bar displays how much "Life Energy" you have, if this drops to 0, then in most cases you will die. Certain spells in Dark Magic allow you to live beyond the zero Life Energy threshold, but only for short periods.

Your Mana Bar displays how much "Mana" you have. Every Mage needs Mana in order to cast spells, if this drops to 0 then you will be unable to cast spells for a short period. Your mana recharges dependent on your experience level within the game. At low levels the mana bar recharges quite slowly.

The more experience you gain the faster your mana will recharge.

    Wizards:

Players who gain enough experience in the game will eventually become wizards. Wizards are very powerful opponents who will have at least one extremely powerful Level 10 spell under their belt.

If a Wizard is created, it may be necessary to form a temporary alliance with 2 or 3 other players to stop the Wizard as soon as possible, before they are able to completely dominate the game!

Killing a wizard gives you one extra frag point for every level ten spell he/she owns.

Type of Mod: Single & Multiplayer First Person Shooter
    More Info

    =========

Defence Allaince 2 is our latest version of DA for the UT2004 engine can be found here at MODDB.

    Moddb.com

    =========

In Defence Alliance (DA) you and your teammates will defend your fort from a horde of bots. You will have some minutes to prepare your machine guns and get into potisions. After that the attack begins. Your mission? Simply, keep them out of your fort for about 20 min. You really need to save your ammo and teamplay is required. The mechanic must be next to you to feed your gun with ammo or else you will lose time reloading it. There are going to be 6 classes, the Mechanic, the Medic and the Marine class which is seperated into 3 sub-classes.

Radio commands will help you and your teammates to co-operate more effectively and protect your fort. The MOD is based near-future so do not expect any laser guns or such unrealistic weapons. As for the number of gameplays. We will first finish the current one (Protect your Fort) and then add more.

    Dibs!

Development Status: Released Oct 13, 2006
    Last Updated: 18 months ago
Type of Mod: Multiplayer First Person Shooter
    More Info

Dibs is a new gametype for Unreal Tournament that emphasizes hunter-hunted

gameplay. IT is also somewhat related to the game of "Dibs", often played

during the childhood years (which can continue into adulthood :) ). While

playing Dibs, you can only hurt the person that you have called dibs on, and

you can only be hurt by yourself and the person that has called dibs on you.

PLEASE NOTE that this is a gametype for UNREAL TOURNAMENT, and NOT FOR

UNREAL TOURNAMENT 2003/2004. Any e-mails inquiring what game this gametype

is for will be met by sarcasm.

    -------------

    Installation

If you have the UMOD version, simply doubl-click the UMOD and follow the directions

    on-screen.

If you have the non-UMOD version, place the "Dibs.u" and "Dibs.int" files in your

    Unreal Tournament System directory.

To play Dibs, select "Dibs" from the list of gametypes.

    -------------

    Gameplay

To claim dibs on somebody, just shoot them. You cannot call dibs on somebody

if someone else has already called dibs on them. To score points, you must

hunt down and kill the person you have called dibs on. After killing your

dibs, you can then claim dibs on a new person. Avoid the person that has

dibs on you. Scoring after these conditions is tallied by Deathmatch defaults.

During the game, HUD messages will tell you who you have dibs on and who has

dibs on you. When you try to claim dibs on somebody that cannot be claimed,

a message will appear notifying you of who already has dibs on that person.

    -------------

    Variations

As of Version 1 (this release), there is only one other variation of Dibs

available called Power Dibs. In Power Dibs, you can hurt the person you

have dibs on, AND also the person who has dibs on you! You score a point

for killing your dibs AND killing whoever has dibs on you. Be careful,

though, as that person will continue to have dibs on you until they kill

you. Power Dibs is generally more fast-paced than regular Dibs.

To play Power Dibs, check the box marked "Power Dibs" on the Settings tab

    in the game start dialog.

    --------------

    Bot Support

Bots play dibs well. As with any mod (and even the retail game), they will

not always act as expected, attacking somebody they do not have dibs on.

However, sometimes their attack is desired, as it may keep the person that has

dibs on them from killing them. Other times, it's a mistake, but they rarely

continuously attack in error. Also, the Impact Hammer may cause them to attack

    when they should run away.

    --------------

    Review

Being the developer of this gametype, I know that I have some bias towards

how fun the game is. However, I really must stress that this game can be

fun for anyone, whether you want a more relaxed game or something a little

faster, or even something a little more strategic.

It took me about three hours to make this, but I can say the effort is more

than multiplied by the fun I've had with it. My favorite is playing Power

Dibs with a lot of high-skill bots. It keeps the pace fast, and it's very

difficult to find somebody that hasn't already had dibs called on them.

    --------------

    Known Issues

There are isolated incidents (during Power Dibs) where you cannot hurt the

person that has dibs on you. However, this condition doesn't last long

enough (in my opinion) to hinder gameplay. Also, since teleporters can

instantly kill anyone, it is possible to score points on anyone by telefragging

them. Again, this is only isolated, as intentional telefrags are few and

far between (unless you are exceptionally skilled with the translocator).

    --------------

    Future Versions...?

For future versions, there will most likely be more variations. Hopefully I

can clean up bot support a little more, but it's not a priority since they

play pretty well already. Don't know when I'll get back to this, since Dibs

was only intended as a short break from the Perfect Dark mod...

This gametype is a project of the Zero Hour Productions Developer Network. You can find Dibs' project page on ZHP here

    Story

DiG stands for Digital Image Games. In the future... The machine AI obtains consciousness and over throws the human race. Humans are still around but they are few and far between. Many humans live in the slave pens of the machines. There are some tasks that the machines just don't feel is worth their time...so the humans do them...or die.

Creations tend to reflect their creators. Much of the AI that took over was based on gambling algorithms used to try to get a leg up in Vegas. As a result...deep with in the AI...their is a desire for risk. Due to the binary nature of the machines, this desire cannot be satisfied...or as soon as a process is designed by one machine it is broken by another. There for the Machines turn to humans to fulfill their lust. The developed the Digital Image Games(DiG). Humans are plugged into a neural network and engage in many contests....the prize? Less time in the torture chamber back

at the slave pens and the opportunity to dream of freedom....

    Gametypes

There are two modes of play. One is a foot race where you play standard UT player models. You can also play in car mode. To do this, open the DiG: The Race menu from the Mod section of the menu bar. In this window check the "Play With Cars" Check Box. In car mode, each player is replaced with a hover car.

You can speed the race up by using the Game Speed Slider in the standard Practice Session/Multiplayer game menu. Car mode is really fun at a speed of 150%.
